Gianluigi Donnarumma

Once a player’s contract has only 6 months left on it, they may negotiate a pre-contract with other clubs. Alternatively, they can go into the summer as a free agent and negotiate from there.

The transfer story of this summer will be Lionel Messi and FC Barcelona. His contract is set to expire this summer and every club in Europe will be desperate to land the Argentine superstar. PSG and Manchester City seem to be the two frontrunners as they have the funds to hand Lionel a blank cheque to bolster their attacks.

The future of Messi could go down to how far Barcelona go in this year’s UEFA Champions League. Paris Saint Germain look likely to knock out the Catalan side in the round of 16 which could tempt Messi to jump ship for next season.

Another player whose contract is up at the end of the season is AC Milan goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma. The 22-year-old has been one of the best keepers in Serie A for the last few season and clubs would definitely be willing to bring in the Italian shot-stopper on a long term deal.

Manchester United, Chelsea, Paris Saint Germain and Real Madrid have all emerged as front runners for the Italian’s signature. Each of these clubs could give Donnarumma minutes with all either having an ageing number 1 or no undisputed starter.

David Alaba recently took to social media to announce his departure from Bayern Munich in the summer. Real Madrid were the front runners for a long time, however as time has gone on, other clubs have joined the race. PSG, Liverpool and Chelsea all want the versatile Alaba this summer and a free transfer for this world-class player would more than suit each club.

Lyon forward Memphis Depay almost joined FC Barcelona in the January transfer window only for it to fall through at the last minute. Manchester United are interested in a return for the Dutchman and Barcelona are also likely to rekindle their interest. Liverpool’s Van Dijk could lure Depay to the club due to their Netherland links and PSG could be an option if Depay is to stay in France.

Georginio Wijnaldum has attracted interest from Paris Saint Germain, Inter Milan and Barcelona with each of the clubs wanting to strengthen the midfield. It looks increasingly likely that Wijnaldum will leave the club and Liverpool have already looked to replace the 30-year-old.

Manchester City legend Sergio Agüero could end his 10-year stint at the club this summer with no new deal penned. Any club in Europe would be very happy to add the Argentine to their front line who’s scored over 180 goals in the Premier League. Barcelona are favourites to sign Agüero, however, they will have to compete with Atletico Madrid and Inter Milan for his signature.

Other players who will be out of contract this summer are Manchester City defender Eric Garcia, PSG trio Angel Di Maria, Julian Draxler and Juan Bernat along with former Premier League man Henrikh Mkhitaryan.
