HARRY KANE SET THE RUMOUR MILL OFF

The one piece of news that Tottenham fans simply did not want to hear and although words regarding Harry Kane’s departure have not been publicly uttered by the hitman himself, the story surrounding a potential move has supporters on edge.

In what has already been an incredibly tough campaign for Tottenham, the last thing fans will want to see, is their crown jewel departing in the summer and with Sky Sports leading with a headline on this topic, there is a sense of no smoke without fire.

According to the broadcaster, the 27-year-old has reiterated a “desire to leave” and reportedly three Premier League counterparts are ready to start the chase for his signature. A trio that includes both Manchester clubs and Chelsea.

Now of course, the mere thought of Kane moving across London to Chelsea, is one that raises an element of suspicion and if you were a betting man, a switch to Stamford Bridge is one that seems rather unlikely.

Admittedly strange things do happen in football, but this would have to be one of the strangest and although there is no such thing as loyalty in the sport, even Harry Kane would not be bold enough for such a switch.

Then again, either of the two Manchester outfits would certainly garner a modicum of appeal and with both City and United already guaranteed of playing Champions League football next season, that is something that Tottenham certainly cannot offer.

As Ryan Mason overlooks the squad until the end of the season, the best that the 2019 Champions League finalists can hope for is a return to the Europa League and secondary competition, is not where Tottenham’s talisman craves to be.

Not only that, but his talents are far too good for a tournament of that ilk and it is near criminal that Kane will not be mixing it against the likes of Robert Lewandowski or Kylian Mbappe next season. That is, not yet.

Because although nothing is set in stone and no transfer has been announced, there is now a genuine element of unease and with Kane believing a gentleman’s agreement is in place with his employers, it is one that he is reportedly looking to exercise.

Of course, Tottenham fans will hold onto a shred of hope and that hope may come from an unlikely figure. That figure being Daniel Levy and although his financial prudence can be frustrating at times, it may now work in his favour.

If negotiations are to genuinely get underway, then Levy will undoubtedly place an eye-watering figure on the head of his prized asset and in doing so, he will hope to ward off any potential suitors over the summer.

Then again, with forwards such as the one at N17 being such a precious commodity, one of Europe’s giants may feel that now is the time to strike and if that is the case, then the wheels on the rumour mill will turn just that little quicker.
