THOMAS TUCHEL LEFT FRUSTRATED WITH TIMO WERNER
Thomas Tuchel left frustrated with Timo Werner after last night's 1-1 draw with Real Madrid
Real Madrid hosted Chelsea in the first leg of the Champions League semi-final on Tuesday night. Chelsea started of the front foot, pressing high and putting Real Madrid under a lot of pressure in the in the first fifteen minutes.
A first fifteen minutes that saw Timo Werner waste a great chance on goal when Christian Pulisic set him up with the the perfect opportunity to put Chelsea ahead from only 6 yards out. Werner hit the ball straight in the middle of the goal and the ex-blues goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois got down quickly to make the save.
It's fair to say that Timo Werner has had a torrid time since leaving German side RB Leipzig for London's blues Chelsea in 2020. Chelsea signed Werner for around £48m which seemed like a great deal at the time. In the 19/20 Bundesliga season Werner scored 28 goals in 34 games for RB Leipzig. The sort of form that Chelsea wished he would have continued with in the Premier League this season.
Werner has only scored 6 goals in 31 games for Chelsea this season and Thomas Tuchel has admitted that he is "frustrated" with Werner being unable to take "big chances".
In Tuchel's post match interview he said:
"He missed a big one at West Ham, now he missed a big one here, it does not help to cry about it."
"We were angry in the moment, this is normal. He is angry, he is maybe disappointed, tomorrow he has a free day and the next day he has to put his chin up."
At this point Chelsea fans will be hoping and praying that Werner can can turn this around and get back to the sort of form that he showed for RB Leipzig in the Bundesliga because with Tammy Abraham being out of favour with the Chelsea manager it's starting to leave them on the short side with striker options.
